Mentor-Protégé Program

Business Terms

Definition

A program that pairs experienced businesses with small businesses to enhance capabilities and competitiveness.

More Information

The SBA's All Small Mentor-Protégé Program allows approved mentors to provide technical, management, financial, and bonding assistance. Mentor-protégé joint ventures can compete for contracts as small businesses regardless of the mentor's size. DOD and other agencies have separate mentor-protégé programs with their own rules.

Example

A large defense contractor mentors an SDVOSB, helping them develop capabilities and compete for joint venture contracts.
