NGLCC International Business & Leadership Conference NGLCC's annual national conference brings together corporate procurement executives and certified LGBTBEs for matchmaking, workshops, and networking. The conference is the highest-concentration access point to NGLCC's corporate network. Regional affiliate chamber events provide more frequent local touchpoints throughout the year.

Many affiliates run their own local matchmaking events, certification support programs, and corporate outreach initiatives. Local chamber membership often provides access to regional corporate contacts not available through the national network alone.

Confidentiality protection NGLCC has strict confidentiality policies. Your LGBT identity is not disclosed to third parties without your consent. You control whether and how to reference your LGBTBE certification in marketing, bid submissions, and corporate conversations. Corporations in NGLCC's network have signed non-discrimination commitments.

Dual certification compatibility LGBTBE certification can be held simultaneously with NMSDC MBE, WBENC WBE, SDVOSB, or other diversity credentials. LGBT-owned businesses that also qualify as minority-owned, women-owned, or veteran-owned frequently hold multiple certifications to access multiple supplier diversity networks.

1. Check the chamber-membership waiver before you budget for the fee. NGLCC waives the $899 certification fee (and the $499 recertification fee) for applicants with current membership in their local affiliate chamber of commerce. Verify the current fee schedule at nglcc.org; joining your local chamber first is the cheapest path through certification.

2. The control test mirrors NMSDC and WBENC standards. NGLCC verifies genuine operational control, not just ownership on paper. The LGBT owner must hold the highest executive position and demonstrably run the business. If a non-LGBT partner or employee actually manages operations while the LGBT owner holds a nominal title, the application will fail the verification step.

3. Ownership documents must be unambiguous about control. Operating agreements or bylaws with veto rights, management override provisions, or unanimous consent requirements for normal business decisions undermine the ownership percentage. Have your attorney review the governing documents before submitting.

4. Self-identification is sufficient. No third-party documentation required. NGLCC does not require medical documentation, legal documentation of gender identity, or any external proof of sexual orientation. Your declaration is what qualifies you. NGLCC's confidentiality protections are contractually binding on staff and corporate partners.

5. Being private about your identity doesn't disqualify you. You don't need to be publicly out as a business owner to certify. Many LGBTBE holders use their certification selectively (in RFP responses, in supplier diversity conversations, and in corporate portal registrations) without publishing it broadly.

6. Register in NGLCC's supplier database completely. After certification, complete your NGLCC profile with NAICS codes, capability keywords, revenue tier, geographic reach, and any other diversity certifications you hold. An incomplete profile reduces your visibility to corporate buyers searching the database.

7. Attend the national conference, at minimum, in your first year. The matchmaking sessions at the NGLCC International Business & Leadership Conference offer direct access to procurement executives you cannot reach by email or cold outreach. First-year LGBTBEs who attend consistently report meaningful corporate contacts from these meetings.

8. Connect with your local affiliate chamber. NGLCC affiliates in cities like NYC, Chicago, LA, Atlanta, Dallas, and Miami run frequent local events. Local chambers often have deeper relationships with regional corporate offices and can make introductions the national network cannot.

9. Dual certification strategy matters. If you are also minority-owned, woman-owned, or veteran-owned, the overlapping certifications reach distinct corporate networks with different matchmaking calendars. NGLCC, NMSDC, and WBENC each have separate conferences and separate corporate members; holding multiple credentials is not redundant.

10. Annual renewal keeps you active in the database. Certification lapses remove you from the NGLCC supplier database, which can disrupt active corporate vendor relationships. Set a renewal reminder 60 days before expiration. Updated financials are required for renewal.
