Definition

A small business that is at least 51% owned by one or more disadvantaged individuals.

SDB status is automatically conferred on 8(a) program participants. Non-8(a) businesses can self-certify as SDB in SAM.gov if they meet size standards and the owner(s) can demonstrate social and economic disadvantage. SDB status provides evaluation credits on some federal contracts.

Example

An 8(a) certified company automatically receives SDB status for the duration of its program participation.
