UEI

Unique Entity Identifier

Codes & Classifications

Definition

A 12-character alphanumeric identifier assigned to entities registering in SAM.gov, replacing the DUNS number.

More Information

The UEI is now the primary identifier for federal contractor registration. It is generated automatically when a business registers or renews in SAM.gov. Unlike DUNS, which was issued by a private company, UEI is assigned directly by the government at no cost.

Example

A business registering in SAM.gov receives a UEI like "ABCD1234EF56" as their unique federal identifier.
