The Volvo Supplier Portal, at supplier-portal.volvo.com, is for companies already supplying the Volvo Group. If you want to become a supplier, Volvo Group's own contact page sends you somewhere else: the Potential Supplier Information Form on its "Become a Volvo Group supply chain partner" page. Volvo stores what you send in a database of potential suppliers and contacts you if it has a concrete need.
Check which Volvo you mean first. The Volvo Group, whose supplier pages cover its truck plants and Volvo Construction Equipment, and Volvo Cars are separate companies. Volvo Group's own invoicing page says it plainly: "Volvo Cars Corporation is not a part of the Volvo Group." This guide covers the Volvo Group.
How to apply as a new supplier
Volvo Group lays out three steps.
- Read the supplier requirements. Volvo asks you to do this before applying, and the requirements decide whether you pass evaluation later (more below).
- Fill in the Potential Supplier form. Volvo says the information is treated as strictly confidential.
- Wait for the evaluation process. If you pass an initial screening, Volvo Group Purchasing contacts you to evaluate whether your profile fits. You may then go through a Supplier Evaluation Model (SEM) to verify you comply with Volvo's Key Element Procedures (KEP). If you succeed and Volvo has a need that matches your capabilities, you may receive a Request for Quotation.
Volvo is candid about the odds: the form is submitted "solely" to tell Volvo what you offer, and "there is no obligation from Volvo to provide any answer or follow up to this request."
What the form asks for
Prepare these before you open it, because the form wants group-level numbers and a file attachment:
- a company presentation to attach (required; up to 10 MB, in PDF, Word, Excel, image, video or text formats);
- your type of ownership;
- turnover in euros and number of employees, both at group level;
- R&D investment as a percentage of revenue;
- up to five production locations (city and country);
- up to four products and up to five customer names;
- whether you have in-house testing facilities, an R&D lab or a tool shop;
- the purchasing category you fit. The list mixes classic and new technology: brakes, wheels and tires; steering and suspension; sealing and fluid management; circularity and remanufacturing; charging and power conversion; hydrogen solutions; services, digital and investments.
Customer names carry weight in a form like this. Name the most demanding automotive or heavy-equipment customers you serve.
What Volvo will hold you to
The evaluation tests you against Volvo's Key Element Procedures. Among the requirements Volvo publishes:
| Requirement | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Supply Partner Code of Conduct (KEP 6) | Volvo's minimum standards on human rights and working conditions, health and safety, responsible sourcing of raw materials, environment and business ethics |
| Supply Partner Quality Assurance Manual (SPQAM) | Volvo's quality requirements |
| Production and engineering requirements (KEP 3) | Process and engineering expectations for production suppliers |
| IMDS reporting | Material and substance declarations for new and modified parts, checked against Volvo's Red List of substances of concern |
| Sustainability self-assessment | A questionnaire through compliance partner NQC's Supplier Assurance platform, in line with the Drive Sustainability industry approach |
| Trade documentation | Calculating your products' Regional Value Content and supplying Certificates of Origin, annually and per shipment where required |
Payment terms and Volvo's General Purchasing Conditions come from your purchasing contact and the Supplier Portal once you are registered, so do not expect to see the terms before an RfQ.
Volvo's supplier diversity program in North America
Volvo Group's requirements page says it has a "Supplier diversity and Small business program that supports federal and societal goals of inclusion, equity, diversity and opportunity in North America." The page names the program but, on the pages we read, gives no separate application, contact address, list of accepted certifications or spend figure. Use the same Potential Supplier form, and state your ownership type and certification in it. If you are not certified, our MBE certification guide covers the most common route.
Already a Volvo supplier: logging in and getting paid
- Supplier Portal login is at supplier-portal.volvo.com. Volvo's current sign-in instructions say external users add @ext.volvogroup.com to their existing username (for example, M123456 becomes M123456@ext.volvogroup.com) and keep their current password.
- Invoice and payment questions go to Volvo's Purchase to Pay Contact Center. Pick the country your invoices are sent to, not the country you are in.
- Viewing Vendor Invoices (VVI), inside the Supplier Portal, shows invoice and deduction copies, payment details and open items. You request access through the Purchase to Pay online form.
Truck and engine programs pull from the same supplier base. Our Cummins supplier guide covers a comparable heavy-duty buyer, and a one-page capability statement doubles as the company presentation Volvo's form asks you to attach.
Your next step: read Volvo Group's supplier requirements, prepare a short company presentation and your group-level figures, then submit the Potential Supplier form under the one category that fits you best.
