FAQ
A corporate supplier diversity program is a procurement initiative where a company commits to sourcing goods and services from diverse-owned businesses (minority, women, veteran, LGBTQ+, disability-owned). Programs typically set annual diverse-spend goals and require third-party certification at supplier registration.
Most corporations require registration through their supplier diversity portal. The standard requirements: an active diverse-business certification (NMSDC MBE, WBENC WBE, NGLCC LGBTBE, NaVOBA VBE, or Disability:IN DOBE), company contact and capability information, and the NAICS codes you serve. Many programs also surface diverse suppliers through Supplier.io or the certifying body's own member directory.
Most Fortune 500 supplier diversity programs require third-party certification (NMSDC, WBENC, NGLCC, Disability:IN, NaVOBA) before a supplier can register as "diverse" on their portal. Without certification, you can sell to the corporation as a general supplier but won't count toward their diverse-spend goals.
Corporate diverse-spend goals vary widely. Many Fortune 500 companies target 10 to 15% of addressable spend. Leaders like Apple, AT&T, and Johnson & Johnson exceed $3 to $10 billion annually. Some programs set specific category targets (MBE, WBE, VBE) that ladder up to a total goal.
